THE JOYFUL INTERRUPTER: ISSUE 10
WEZMOMENT
Yesterday on December 1st, our founder, Eddie Coker, celebrated a birthday! This week we are shouting out our favorite Texan cowboy. Eddie, you are the creative spark behind Wezmore and the spirit that keeps us alive. It is through your wit and weirdness that we’re able to experience the joy of your characters, music, and mission. Thank you for being you: a wonderfully imperfect human.
LOCAL NEWS
Good news for you!
Our friends at Dallas Doing Good covered an innovative app developed by Nick Marino. The app, TangoTab, allows a person to donate a meal to someone going hungry by checking in at a restaurant. Nick said, “As soon as I started at TangoTab in 2012 I made it a point to make sure our team and users volunteered every month at different food organizations. We need to do more than just write a check. We need to roll up our sleeves and get to work.” Read more about this new way to donate here.
MENTAL HEALTH BREAK
Take some time to focus on your mind
As November draws to a close and December begins, we often find ourselves swept up in the madness of the holidays. Especially at this time of year, it can be easy to fall prey to consumerism, sadness, and disappointment. And while gift-giving is wonderful, sometimes we may find ourselves wishing for more, more, more. Gratitude as a practice has scientifically backed benefits that can reshape your outlook on life and fill your heart with contentment. According to a study done by Berkeley, gratitude has lasting effects on the brain. Over time, with consistent practice, a grateful mindset will show measurable activity in the medial prefrontal cortex— the decision-making portion of the brain. Now is the time to cultivate a new habit, especially one that brings positive, lasting changes to your mind. Start by journaling one thing a day you’re grateful for.
