The Wezmore Basics is a free, semester-long series of quick videos that offer students a “brain break” while incorporating a positive message about the self. Good news for you!
The good news for both this week and this whole year is the development and implementation of the COVID-19 vaccine. While so much continues to hang in the balance, there is light at the end of the tunnel that is brighter and brighter with each passing day. Stay safe Wez friends!
MENTAL HEALTH BREAK
Take some time to focus on your mind
January tends to bring an onslaught of new goals and practices we hope to introduce to our lives, but too often, our energy disappears by February. Here are three tips to work on introducing a new practice in a way that is both accessible and achievable. One: set your goals in writing. Writing things down activates a different part of your brain than typing. Get out your pen and paper for this one. Two: write down what you hope the outcome of your goals will be. Instead of “I will run every day this year,” try “When I run more often, I will feel healthier and strengthen my muscles.” Three: stick with your goal. Experts say it takes 21 days to form a new habit, but about 65 for it to become automatic. If you want to start a new habit, try introducing it with something you already automatically do each day. For example: write a gratitude list with your morning coffee.
